The Catchpole team were forced to miss the final rounds of the SCSA Championship at Rockingham, after their car was wrecked in a huge crash during qualifying.

The team were optimistic about their chances following vast improvements last time out. "The car was good as it had ever been and we were 10th quickest in the morning practice on tyres that had done over 120 laps. I wasn't even trying, but I think we could have got a really good grid position," explained team leader Southampton based Phil Weaver.

Qualifying had barely got under when Mike Luck had a power steering failure, leaving fluid and oil in Turn One. "Mike was unable to make the corner and had gone straight into the wall. I came along about 10 seconds later and spun in the middle of Turn One, doing an anti clockwise 180 on the oil, before slamming into the wall front first, then sliding down the wall into Mike's car. He had already got his belts off and only a quick shout from his spotter stopped him from being seriously injured. He managed to stay in the seat as I hit, still doing about 80mph. Five seconds later he could have been out of the car and I could have killed him," Weaver explained.

The car wreck was taken back to the teams Corby base, with the rear end totally detached from the centre section of the chassis.
